There is so much about being a yoga teacher that I love, and seeing you all progress through your practice is one of those things. My idea of progress is measured in how in tune you are to yourself, and how low you make the volume of the chatter in your head. Way down on the list is standing on your head.
and how healthy is your relationship with yourself.
Yoga is about the whole body, which, as yogis, we know as being the body, mind and spirit. I want you to connect with your whole self and then feed yourself bloody well - yoga practice for, well, everything, nourishing food to fuel yourselves, and self talk that involves lifting you up, supporting the emotional body.
My mantra to you, spoken and unspoken, is always: Work with the body you have brought with you today
These are words to live by.
Accepting yourself as you are, looking for what is RIGHT, what is working, and building on that is a step towards compassion and love. You begin to pay attention a little bit more, checking in with yourself. And you start to get out of your own way, begin to feel into your body and make great choices for your body.
We have 2 regular classes that work with bodies that are a little more obstinate than what they used to be, so we take time to open them up.
We have had a couple restorative classes this term which provide a beautiful reset for the mind and a complete rest for the body. If you have never tried this class...you should!
As we break down all of our classes into their simplest form, it's about linking the
body and mind through the medium of the breath.
The breath is our anchor.
I know it has been difficult for some of you to come to class. Life puts up those barriers sometimes. I know.
The yoga door is always open for you to come back when you can, no matter how long it's been.
Some of you come multiple times during the week.
I hope you see the benefits multiply on and off the mat.
I see the shifts.
Thank you for taking the time to create space for yoga for yourself, and for allowing me to support you to do that.
Next term I have planned for a stand alone meditation class.
If you have never meditated before and have never done it, don't be afraid! If you have been coming to classes for the physical practice, you are already meditating. We are just going to take away the physical practice and make meditation our focus.
If you would like to learn the basics away from this class first let me know and if there are enough students, I will do a little meditation masterclass to give you all the information you need to join the class.
Much gratitude and love to you all for joining me in the Yoga Room.
See you on the mat in Term 2
